As Saint steps across the arid sand it springs
to life beneath her feet, a riot of greenery
that gives hope to an oppressed people...
But why is a 12-year old English girl in the
exotic desert world of Thebes?
And what does this have to do with her
missing mother?
Saint’s life has been scarred by a double
tragedy – her father died in an accident, and
her mother has mysteriously disappeared. She
lives with her frail Grandmother, alone in a
large house full of memories.
One morning Saint finds her grandmother in
the garden, desperately trying to cut a path to
the gazebo. Overcome by the effort her
grandmother collapses and dies in Saint’s arms.
Alone and distraught, Saint picks up the scythe
and completes her grandmother’s work, hacking
through the last of the brambles.
Saint steps into the gazebo and is instantly
transported to Thebes, a desert world of fire
wolves and ice dragons, and into an epic
adventure to find her mother.
Saint’s magical ability to bring life to the
desert marks her out as The Rainmaker, a
mythical hero who will defeat the Sandman, a
huge snake who has killed the greenery and
rules the land. When the people turn to Saint
for their salvation, the Sandman sends his
giant lizard warriors to hunt her down.
As the lizard men close in, Saint learns
that her mother has been captured by the
Sandman and is held prisoner in his impregnable
Sand Palace. Desperate to free her, Saint
agrees to lead the people into battle against
the Sandman.
As the battle rages Saint confronts the
Sandman, only to find that her mother has in
fact become his ally. Will Saint fight the
Sandman and risk losing her mother again, or
join forces with them and betray her new
friends?
